Background

Child Welfare South Africa (CWSA) was established in 1924. CWSA-KZN is a member of CWSA-National. At the National Board we are represented by the Chairperson of CWSA-KZN.

Thirty eight (38) independent child welfare organisations throughout the province are affiliated/member organisations of Child Welfare South Africa- KZN.

Child Welfare South Africa- KZN is staffed by 4 Area Managers, who are all qualified and registered social workers, and one part-time administrative staff. The Area Managers are based in 4 different geographical districts of KZN in order to be accessible to the member organisations. These are the Uthukela, Ethekwini, Ugu and Umgungulovu district municipalities.

Together the member organisations provide services to over 45 000 thousand children.

Area Managers provide direct supervision and management services to 25 affiliates without on-site supervisors. These are generally rural or semi-rural organisations with limited resources, comprising of two social workers and generally reliant on the DSD subsidies
